Self Defense
The following are the list of self-defense forms that are practiced against types of attacks.
- Escapes from a Single Wrist Grab (Opponent's left hand grabs your right)
- twist wrist to align it with the opponents thumb
- quickly and firmly pull your wrist toward the opposite shoulder
- assisted elbow strike
- tuck elbow of grabbed hand into your side
- quickly shoot your grabbed hand behind the opponents head and grab the back of their head
- grab the opponents chin with free hand
- with the free hand, push the chin away as the grabbed hand pulls the back of the head forward
- free hand knife hand strike to the opponents shoulder
- raise grabbed hand to shoulder height
- stomp on the opponents foot at the same time execute a knife hand strike to the ribs with grabbed hand
- rotate the right hand clockwise and grasp the back of your opponent's hand
- turn the right wrist to apply pressure with the knife edge of your hand into the opponent's wrist
- rotate the right hand counter-clockwise to bring the palm up
- grasp the opponent's left hand with your fingers on the palm and the thumb across the back of the hand and apply pressure
- free your right hand and grasp the opponent's hand with your right in the same manner as the left
- twist the opponent's hand clockwise to apply pressure
- Escapes from a Cross Wrist Grab (Opponent's right hand grabs your right wrist)
- with the right hand, grasp the back of the opponent's head
- execute a left roundhouse elbow strike to the opponent's head
- rotate your right hand clockwise and grab the opponent's hand with the fingers against the palm and the thumb on the back of the opponent's hand
- once free, execute an upward elbow strike to the head
- execute a dropping elbow strike to the collar bone
- rotate the grabbed wrist around and over the opponents hand, applying pressure to the opponent's wrist with the knife edge
- once free, execute a roundhouse elbow strike
- step in with the left left and pivot to the right
- bring the left arm up uder the opponent's right elbow, while pulling down on the opponent's right arm
- after breaking the elbow, grasp the opponent's wrist with your left hand
- reverse the motion, lifting the opponent's right arm, and ducking under while rotating the opponent's wrist
- place your right hand on the opponent's right elbow and apply forward pressure on the elbow while pulling back on the hand
- step in with the left left and pivot to the right
- bring the left arm up uder the opponent's right elbow, while pulling down on the opponent's right arm
- after breaking the elbow, grasp the opponent's wrist with both your hands
- lifting the opponent's right arm, and ducking under while rotating the opponent's arm to face the palm toward the shoulder
- pull the opponent's hand back and down
- Escapes from a Two on One Wrist Grab (both the opponent's hands grab one of yours)
- Escapes from a Double Wrist Grab (opponent grabs both of your wrists)

- step forward to bring elbows close to your side
- quickly thrust your arms up and grasp the opponent's head
- pull the head down for a knee strike

- step forward and pivot while straightening the arm now closest to the opponent
- once your arm is free, execute a supported elbow strike to the opponent's head

- step forward while pulling your arms back toward your belt
- once your opponent's arms are fully extend, reverse the motion, pressing up and back on the opponent's wrists with your hands
- execute a front push kick to the opponent's stomach

- step back, at the same time rotating your wrists to bring the knife edge to the top of the opponent's wrists
- push down sharply on the opponent's wrists
- execute a knee strike when the opponent bends over

- turn your right wrist upward
- grasp the opponent's left hand with your left hand, your fingers on the palm, thumb on the back of their hand
- firmly pull your right hand free, while applying pressure to opponent's left wrist
- Escapes from a Front Choke

- execute a spear finger strike to the opponent's chest just above the sternum

- bring your arms up over your head, then step back and perform a double dropping hammer strike to the opponent's elbows
- execute twin roundhouse punches to the opponent's temples

- execute twin spearhand strikes to the opponent's armpits

- bring your left arm up over your head, while grabbing the opponents right wrist with your right hand
- pivot to your right to expose the opponent's elbow
- execute an elbow strike to the opponent's right elbow

- step back with the left leg while executing a right palm heel strike to the opponent's chin
- execute a left front snap kick to the opponent's abdomen
- Escapes from a Rear Choke/Grab

- step around to the front with your left left while performing a left roundhouse punch to the opponent's temple

- step around to the front with the left leg, planting the foot closer to the rear of the opponent
- at the same time, execute a left elbow strike to the opponent's temple

- step around and behind the opponent with the left leg
- at the same time, perform a left arc hand strike to the small of the back, while pressing the opponent back with the right forearm

- step behind with your left leg
- quickly turn 180 degrees while dropping to your left knee
- execute a right uppercut punch to the opponent's groin

- raise your left arm above your head
- twist 180 degrees using your left arm to force the opponent's grip loose
- wrap your left arm around the opponent's arms, while reaching your right hand to the opponent's back to grab their belt
- perform a hip throw
- Escapes from a Hair Grab

- Escape from a One Hand Grab to the Front of the Head
- grab the opponent's hand and hold them to your head
- bend at the waist and head, while stepping back, and pulling down on the opponent's wrist
- once released, push the opponent's hand away and execute a front snap kick to the opponent's midsection

- Escape from a Two Hand Grab to the Sides of the Head
- grab the opponent's hands with both your hands
- bring your elbow up and over the opponent's arms, locking them under your armpit

- Escape from a Two Hand Grab to the Side and Front of the Head
- grab the opponent's hands with both your hands
- bring your elbow up and over the opponent's arms, locking them under your armpit

- Escape from a One Hand Grab to the Rear of the Head
- grab opponent's hand with both of your hands
- turn towards the opponent's pinky, twisting the hand off the head, and turning the palm towards you
- apply pressure to the opponent's wrist by pushing against the palm

- Escape from a Two Hand Grab to the Sides of the Head from the Rear
- grab both the opponent's hands with yours
- twist under the opponent's arms in either direction
- once facing the opponent, straighten your arms forcing the opponent's into a pretzel
- Escapes from a Lapel Grab
- Escapes from a Shoulder Grab

- circle the arm of the grabbed shoulder in a forward sweep, breaking the opponent's hold
- as the hold releases, reach across your body and grabbed the opponent's hand with your free hand
- continue to twist the opponent's hand with your hand, as you apply pressure with the elbow of your previously held arm

- circle the grabbed arm up and back to dislodge the opponent's grip
- continue the motion to trap the opponent's arm in an arm bar, reaching across your body with your free hand to apply pressure

- circle the grabbed arm in a forward sweep, breaking the opponent's hold
- continue the motion around a second time, grasping the opponent's arm
- grab the opponent's elbow with your free hand and apply pressure

- with the hand of the grabbed arm, grasp the opponent's hand
- perform an arc hand strike with your free hand to the opponent's elbow
- duck under the opponent's arm, and twist the opponent's wrist
- place your free hand on the opponent's elbow, and apply pressure on the elbow while pulling on the opponent's wrist

- reach across your body and grab the opponent's hand
- perform an arc hand strike with your grabbed hand
- rotate the opponent's hand and twist the opponent into an arm bar
- Defense against a Knife Attack

- Defense against a downward stab
- perform a left rising block to the opponent's wrist, leaving the block in place
- execute a right palm heel strike to the opponent's chin
- reach under the opponent's arm with your right hand and grab your left hand
- pull the opponent's arm backwards and down, driving them to the floor

- Defense against a straight stab to the midsection
- step off center behind the hand to dodge the strike, while performing a left palm block
- grab the opponent's with both of your hands, and twist the opponent's wrist
- step forward with right foot and drive the opponent to the ground
- twist the opponent's wrist until they drop the knife

- Defense against an Upward Thrust
- perform a low section X block near the opponent's elbow
- twist the wrists over to secure the opponent's arm
- twist to the right, pulling the opponent's arm past your body
- execute a left thrust kick to the opponent's abdomen
- twist the opponent's hand up and over their shoulder, driving them to the ground

- Defense against a Downward Slash (left to right)
- perform a left rising block to the opponent's wrist and a right knife hand strike to the opponent's temple
- grab the opponent's wrist with both hands, bringing it down in front of your body as you twist
- break the elbow over your shoulder
- twist the opponent's hand toward their body, with your right hand on their wrist and your left hand on their elbow
- thrust the opponent's knife into their abdomen

- Defense against a Back Slash (right to left)
- perform a window block to the right
- grab the opponent's wrist with your right hand, while executing a left elbow strike to the ribs
- execute an arc hand strike to the opponent's elbow, driving the knife into the opponent's abdomen
